There are 23 Purdue graduates who have gone on to become astronauts. One of these is the man with the first footprint on the moon, Neil Armstrong. Another is the man to put the last footprint on the moon, Gene Cernan.

Taylor spent two years in the engineering program, but she discovered her heart wasn’t in it. “It wasn’t what I wanted,” she says. “I was still interested in planes, I just didn’t feel connected to my studies. I kept my eyes and ears open, and found my way to the aviation technology department and the aeronautical engineering technology department.”
